Outdoor Camp Adventure

Forest Elementary’s 5th graders traded their classrooms for the great outdoors during an unforgettable week at YMCA Storer Camps from April 28 through May 1st.

Students stayed in cozy cabins and lodges, fully immersing themselves in camp life. Throughout the week, they rotated through a wide variety of hands-on learning experiences, including Fire Quest, Pond Life, Give Me Shelter, Michigan Country, Native American Life, Archery, Gone Fishing, and Down on the Farm. Each activity gave students a chance to explore nature, build new skills, and work together in a fun, outdoor setting.

Evenings at camp were just as memorable. Students gathered for nighttime activities like bonfires, square dancing, and the ever-popular Predator vs. Prey game. Laughter and teamwork filled the camp as students bonded with classmates in new ways.

One of the highlights of the week was the friendly competition for the “Golden Toilet Seat” award, given to the cabins that kept their living spaces the cleanest. Students took pride in working together to keep their cabins tidy, adding a fun twist to responsibility.

Meals were another favorite part of camp life. Students looked forward to themed favorites like Taco Tuesday and Waffle Wednesday, along with spaghetti dinners and plenty of hearty options to keep them fueled for their busy days.

By the end of each day, students were happily exhausted from the fresh air and nonstop activity. The trip provided not only outdoor adventure, but also lasting memories, new friendships, and valuable life experiences.

Forest’s 5th graders returned home with stories to tell, smiles to share, and a deeper appreciation for the outdoors.
